Azores Trail Run: Golden Trail National Series

THE GTNS LANDS IN THE AZORES FOR THEIR GRAND FINAL 

21ST TO 24TH OCTOBER 2021, 3-DAY STAGE RACE THE AZORES, PORTUGAL

 The best athletes from the entire Golden Trail National Series are gathering on the Azores archipelago for an unprecedented Grand Final! 

After a supercharged GTWS Grand Final, won by Maude Mathys (Team Salomon, Switzerland) and Francesco Puppi (Team Nike Trail, Italy), the Golden Trail Series unpacks their bags in the Azores for the final event of the year: the Golden Trail National Series Grand Final. 

The Best National Athletes 

Like the Golden Trail World Series (GTWS) at an international level, throughout the year, the Golden Trail National Series (GTNS) gathers the best national athletes from 11 different zones: 

- USA/Canada 

- France/Belgium 

- Germany/Austria/Switzerland 

- Spain/Portugal 

- Italy 

- UK 

- Czech Republic/Slovakia/Poland 

- The Nordic Countries 

- Mexico

- Croatia 

- Slovenia 

Each series saw 3 male and 3 female athletes (except Mexico: top 2 men and 2 women, and the Nordic Countries: the male and female winners) qualify, who will meet for 3 days racing in the Azores archipelago. 

On the programme: 86.4 kilometres and 5,553 metres elevation gain spread across three stages on the ultra-technical volcanic trails. It’s a similar format to last year’s Golden Trail Championship that took place in the Azores. 

The bounty; the top 3 men and women from the overall ranking will be invited to 3 stages of the GTC 2022 to compete at the highest international level

Each stage will reveal a daily ranking, but only the final overall ranking will count to determine the GTNS 2021 best runners.
